Promises

as the dust hung in the late-summer air,

faded sunlight touched our reddened hides

that hid seeds of change within us.

we dreamt of the winter to come.

promises of renewal and rebirth.

promises made to each other in the dark.

your sweet nothings

turned every thing sweet that fall.

your raw & rubied fingers found me,

slowly,

pulling me apart

as i shivered under rows of trees.

where others found you bitter,

i took the time to savor,

noticing your complexities.

a taste like no other.

note: I have a prompt on my dating app profile for others to send me in a topic for a poem. This request was for the topic “pomegranates”.
